Series Overview:
The X20 system is the core product of B&R's I/O portfolio. Since its market launch in 2004, it has been continuously developed for over twenty years and remains crucial to the success of machine builders today. It is far more than a remote I/O system — it is a complete control solution that allows users to combine controllers, I/O modules, and communication interfaces based on their specific application requirements.
The core design principle of the X20 system is "three basic elements form one module": Terminal block – Electronic module – Bus module. This modularity combines the advantages of both rack-based and slice I/O systems:
Pre-wiring without the module — reduces on-site wiring time
Hot-pluggable electronics — maintenance without powering down
Extra bus slots — easy communication expansion
Key Features & Benefits:
High-Density Design, Space-Saving — 16 channels in a 12.5 mm wide module, delivering 50% more channel density than conventional slice systems without sacrificing terminal connections.
Complete CPU Performance Gradient — Available as Compact CPU (37.5mm wide, cost-effective), Fieldbus CPU (supports fieldbus expansion), and Standard CPU (Intel Celeron-based, task cycle down to 200µs) — covering everything from simple logic control to high-performance multi-axis motion control.
Rich Communication Interfaces — All CPUs feature RS232, Ethernet and USB as standard, with integrated POWERLINK real-time Ethernet — enabling network connectivity at no extra cost.
Powerful Expansion Capability — Standard CPUs offer 1 to 3 interface module slots for flexible selection of CAN, CANopen, PROFIBUS DP (master/slave), DeviceNet, Modbus, and other fieldbus modules.
Remote Distributed Architecture — X2X Link bus enables distances up to 100 m between stations without repeaters, supporting up to 253 I/O stations for centralized or distributed installation.
Long-Term Availability & Compatibility — The X20 system has been in continuous development for twenty years and will continue to evolve, protecting customers' long-term investment.
CPU Portfolio & Selection Guide:
